Wikihouse

WikiHouse is an open-source project for designing and building houses. It's attempting to simplify the construction of sustainable, resource-light dwellings.

Construction of WikiHouse structures requires no special parts because the CNC cut pieces of wood snap together with wedge and peg connections inspired by classical Korean architecture. The frame of a WikiHouse can be assembled in less than a day by people with no formal training in construction. The frame must then be finished with cladding, insulation, wiring, and plumbing before it can be inhabited.

I think Wikihouse maybe what I'm looking for in building an affordable DIY ADU in my backyard and what I'm really looking for is someone who has done the design and builds so I don't have to reinvent the wheel.

And I seem to have found that person, his name is Vincent Muller, he is an architect at the firm of Ontwerpburo MULLER in the Netherlands. Vincent has designed and built the Pioneer House or Pionierswoning-WikiHouse as they say in Dutch. He has been kind enough to provide all of his architectural and engineering files in GitHub.

The Pioneer house is just the right size without ruining the feel of my backyard. The house is 522 sq ft and measures 29' wide x 18' deep. My current garage is 640 sq ft and measures 32' wide x 20' deep.

Here's a rendering of the Pioneer House:

I think this has potential, and if I can build it for $200 per sq ft or less then I'm willing to take on the challenge!
