So what do you do when you have an inexperienced ADU company that has good pricing but doesn't have it's "shit" together?
Well . . . you move on.
Unfortunately, Habitat ADU, as a startup company comprised of almost entirely twenty-somethings didn't have a clue how to address my concerns nor make me feel as if they could really handle the complexity of building and installing an ADU in my backyard.
As a startup company, they have yet to install a prefab ADU in anyone's backyard but say they have ten signed contracts to do so.
Here's a warning from Valley Home Development who has years of ADU building experience:
For all you homeowners out there looking at this Facebook page to get info on ADUs and connect with professionals, I want to give you some advice. As the nation's #1 ADU builder I can tell you that there’s a lot of new companies out here trying to get your business. That’s great for the industry and I fully support the idea of more qualified people coming to the table to help you. That being said I’ll tell you that you can’t trust everyone because they know how to say what you want to hear and post lots of pretty pictures. Today I caught another company illegally using images of ours to imply it's their work. I can only assume that the rest of the images weren’t theirs either. The point is, you as customers need to make sure that the companies you’re considering have real experience doing this before you move forward. Anyone saying they’ve done 50 ADU’s but steal images of our work can’t be trusted.
Trust . . . at the end of the day, your ADU builder has to garner your trust. As for Habitat ADU, they didn't.
So let's move on.
