A Venn diagram is an illustration of the relationships between and among groups of objects that share something in common. Usually, Venn diagrams are used to depict set intersections. This type of diagram is used in scientific and engineering presentations, in theoretical mathematics, in computer applications, and in statistics.
It's also used at City Hall to make things really, really confusing when it comes to building an ADU!
The City has a four-set Venn Diagram comprised of Building, Planning, Fire Prevention, and Public Works hence the need to provide four sets of building plans. Think of it looking something like this:
Each of the four departments (ABCD) has its rules and regulations which may or may not impact the other department. But you can see that from the Venn Diagram above the resulting intersections and dependencies can be rather complicated, especially for one doing a DIY ADU.
And I think the Venn Diagram is the perfect visual for what I'm trying to do with this DIY ADU blog, trying to figure out the steps and missteps so others don't have to.
